Survey: Share Your Ideas for #ASAA2020

CALLING JAPAN/ASIA SCHOLARS

The Japan Foundation, Sydney is seeking suggestions about how it can contribute to a Japan presence at the upcoming #ASAA2020 conference.

In 2018, we surveyed Australia-based Japan scholars to gauge sentiment regarding our existing projects and find how we can better support Japanese Studies locally. A significant proportion of respondents indicated that they see value in increasing Japan-related engagement with Asian Studies (view survey results here).

In line with this, we are consulting with stakeholders in the local academic community to understand how we can best support a Japan presence at #ASAA2020, possibly through a panel, roundtable or similar event.

CRITERIA

The potential project needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Have relevance for both Japanese Studies and broader Asian Studies
  • Be achievable within a budget of approx. AU$5,000 from The Japan Foundation, Sydney, or have specific co-funding potential if costs exceed this amount
  • Be organised or co-organised by The Japan Foundation, Sydney
  • Be recommended to The Japan Foundation, Sydney by September 1, 2019

Our first project of this nature, run at #ASAA2018, was a cross-sector roundtable on student mobility which focused on case studies between Australia and Japan and resulted in this report.

#ASAA2020 projects can either build on the student mobility theme, or focus on a new area.
