Language Training for Researchers

Programs for Specialists in Cultural and Academic Fields

Applications for JFY2017-18 are now open, and will close on 1 December 2016.

This grant is designed to provide specialists (researchers, postgraduate students, librarians, curators etc.) who need a good command of Japanese to conduct field work and research, through an intensive residential training course.

Training Periods:

  • June to August 2017 [Two month course] (tentative)
  • October 2017 to April 2018 [Six month course] (tentative)


Who is eligible for this grant?

People of the following professions can apply for this grant, librarians, curators, post graduate students, scholars and researchers.

I am not fluent in Japanese. Am I eligible for this program?

Yes. To be successful you only have to have the equivalent proficiency of Level 3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at the time of your application.
