
Starter Course (A1)
The Starter course has been suspended for the duration of 2023. The curriculum has been retained for your reference.
This is a one year course consisting of 4 terms of 10 weeks.
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Ask and answer basic questions on familiar topics, such as family and oneself.
- Understand and use simple phrases and sentences in areas of essential need.
- Recognise familiar names, words and very basic phrases on simple notices.
- Write basic, isolated phrases and sentences.
Course Content
In the Starter course, we aim to cover Topics 1 to 8 of the textbook “Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture (Starter, A1)”.
Term 1
Topics 1 and 2: “Japanese” and “Myself”
Term 2
Topics 3 and 4: “Food” and “Home”
Term 3
Topics 5 and 6: “Life” and “Holidays and Days off 1”
Term 4
Topics 7 and 8: “Towns” and “Shopping”

Textbook
Fee
$30 (Two volumes)
Textbook fees will be charged at the same time as the course fees in terms requiring a new textbook.
Students can choose to receive their textbooks and supplementary materials via post or pick them up from The Japan Foundation, Sydney office.
