Fellowship Alumni Networking Workshop 2019

Connecting Alumni

On March 22, The Japan Foundation, Sydney will hold a day-long workshop to bring together Australian-based alumni of the Japan Foundation’s fellowship program. Invitations were extended to individuals who completed a Japan Foundation fellowship between 2001 and 2018 and are still active in academia.

Travel expenses for alumni whose universities are outside of the Sydney metropolitan area will be covered by The Japan Foundation, Sydney to reduce barriers to participation and better facilitate networking among scholars from universities across Australia.

Special opportunity

For a number of years, we have been looking for opportunities to reconnect with fellowship alumni and connect alumni with each other. Presenting an event of this nature is a challenge, especially given the distances involved in bringing people together. Fortunately, an opportunity emerged this year. We are delighted to celebrate local Japan Foundation fellows’ continuing connections with Japan and scholarship through this initiative.

About the alumni cohort

In total, the Japan Foundation has supported 61 Australian or Australia-based fellows to conduct in-country research in Japan since 2001. Of these, the 47 alumni who remain active in academia were invited to the workshop, including 6 alumni who are now based overseas. We look forward to welcoming 25 invitees from the following universities to the workshop on the day.

  • Australian National University
  • Bond University
  • Curtin University
  • LaTrobe University
  • Macquarie University
  • Queensland University of Technology
  • RMIT University
  • The University of Melbourne
  • The University of Queensland
  • The University of South Australia
  • The University of Sydney
  • The University of Technology Sydney
  • The University of Wollongong
  • Western Sydney University
