Papercraft workshop with Benja Harney

Workshop
June 17, 2017

Explore the architecture of Japanese cities while learning the basics of papercraft. The forms, textures and geometry found in Japanese architecture offer limitless inspiration for design play and experimentation. By working with templates designed by paper engineer Benja Harney, participants will be encouraged to invent new ways of shaping the city through paper, and together, create a new imagined Japanese city skyline. Spaces are limited, book early to avoid disappointment.

This workshop is recommended for ages 12 and up.

ABOUT BENJA HARNEY

Benja Harney is a paper engineer with an enduring connection to Japan. While living in Japan, Harney’s research in paper exposed him to the rich tradition of paper in Japanese art and design culture: from the technical possibilities in origami to the practical beauty of paper in shoji screens. Over the last 12 years as a professional creative, artist and educator, Harney has led his Sydney-based studio, Paperform, to develop a body of work that pushes the possibilities of the paper medium. Pop-up books, paper sculpture, installation, illustration, packaging, fine art, fashion, animation, set design – Harney makes anything and everything possible within this endlessly inventive material.
