Creating Digital Resources – Enhance Your Skills in ICT

The Japan Foundation, Sydney will offer two types of workshops for enhancing skills in ICT. The workshops are a repeat of the same sessions run last year, back due to popular demand! These sessions invite you to use applications you may have previously been hesitant to try, or brush up your skills. Feel free to participate in either or both of these workshops if your schedule permits.

The workshops are structured so that the applications can be learned in just one session. Each session will be conducted online in English and Japanese and will run for approximately 60 minutes.

【Workshop A】Creating Japanese resources with PowerPoint

【Workshop B】Create an automatically-scoring quiz using Google Forms

Target participants:
Japanese language teachers at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary level in Australia and New Zealand

Workshop language:
Japanese and English

Participation fee:
Free

Requirements:
Please ensure to use a desktop or laptop for the workshop (tablets, Chromebooks and mobile phones do not meet our requirements).

Certificate:
A certificate will be given to participants upon completion of a sample task by July 23, 2021 (Fri) .

Feedback form:
Participants who completed feedback form by July 23, 2021 (Fri) will be access to the session PPT.

【Workshop A】

Creating Japanese resources with PowerPoint

Date:
July 9, 2021 (Friday) 11:00am-12:00pm AEST (60min)

Presenter:
Himiko Negishi-Wood, Language Consultant

Description:
In this workshop, we will explore how to use PowerPoint effectively in your Japanese class to create a range of interesting, engaging and interactive teaching materials. Participants will first gain experience using PowerPoint  animations to make simple and fun quizzes. We will then run through some additional functions including how to insert images and sounds, as well as other animation techniques such as the page turn effect to create picture books. While the Japanese resources introduced in this session are aimed at primary level, the functions we will cover can be applied at any level.

Requirements:
Access to Microsoft PowerPoint software (Office 2010 or newer for Windows, Office 2012 or newer for Mac), as we will cover using PoweProint’s trigger function.

 

【Workshop B】

Create an automatically-scoring quiz using Google Forms

Date:
July 9, 2021 (Friday) 2:00pm-3:00pm AEST (60min)

Presenter:
Shunsuke Hirakawa, Language Consultant

Description:
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to creating an automatically scored test using Google Forms. Using the test function of Google Forms, you can automatically mark and summarise the results. You can also provide feedback to students on their answers. We will show you how to use these functions to make time-consuming test grading and feedback much easier! We will use secondary Japanese resources as an example in this workshop. However, the features can be applied to any grade level.

Requirements:
A Google Account to access Google Drive and Google Chrome.
