Please join us for our informal online conversations with Tasmanians (and Tasmanians at heart) living and working in Japan.

This time we will connect with Michael and Tanami, proud owners of Myoko Mountain Lodge in Japan. They moved from Tasmania in 2015 to run the successful year-round lodge (rated number one by TripAdvisor for 5 years in a row). The winter seasons are especially amazing with over 17 meters of snow falling through the season and close ski resorts.

They will take us on a virtual tour of their lodge and surroundings.  Showing us all that the area has to offer around the year and describe their life in the Japanese Alps.

This will be an interactive event, with a presentation followed by plenty of time for questions and conversation.

This will be a Zoom event - a link to the meeting room will be emailed to registrants one hour before the event.

More information on Michael and Tanami: a short BIO on how we ended up buying a ski lodge and moving to Japan.

Tamami and I arrived in Tasmania April 1995 having spent a year in Japan climbing the mountains in the summer and working in a ski resort in the winter, prior to that we both lived in Sydney where we first met in 1990 and for a while in Melbourne.  I had been in the entertainment industry since I was 26 year, touring the world many times with various rock bands and on arrival in Australia in the spring of 1982. I continued touring for a while and then I set up my own production company in 1986, specialising in event management and ran numerous projects over the years.

We decided that we would make Tasmania our home for a while, that while turned into 20 adventures’ years. Tamami started work as a Travel Agent with STA Travel and then took a position with Andrew Jones Travel in 2008.  I imbedded myself into the event business and eventually worked and most of the major events in Tasmania and had a constant flow of work in the conference sector on the mainland.

In the spring of 2013, we had an email from a friend in Japan, inquiring how he could advertise the sale of his ski lodge in Myoko Kogen.  We had known him for over 20 years and had stayed at the lodge several times and this I recall when the seeds were sown and we started discussing the pro and cons of calling it a day in Tassie as we were both somewhat worn out, me with running back-to-back festivals and Tamami also working in a demanding industry.  Jumping ship and changing directions in my career path has always come easy to me, focus and follow was always my moto and never scared to leave the shore to check what’s waiting over the horizon.

So, if by magic, in the October of 2013 we found our ourselves on our way to Japan to discuss the sale of the lodge and came back the owners and the next adventure had begun. We rented the lodge out to the local ski school to house their staff in 2014 and by the April of 2015 we had sold our farm in Huonville and headed off to Japan

The Lodge has been super successful and we have been rated the number one by  TripAdvisor for 5 years in a row. It's a year-round lodge with much to do in all the seasons and we are very popular with cycle groups, trail runners and mountain walkers with so much on our doorstep. The winter seasons are amazing with over 17 metres of snow falling through the season and close to 9 ski resorts, the closest only 650m from the lodge. Plenty see and enjoy for the not so active and Tamami is an expert when it comes to traveling and experiencing Japan.
