This will be the Sydney launch of two Japan-related projects in Cowra:  Cowra Voices, a storytelling project based in Central West NSW, and the Japanese Cemetery Online Database.

Cowra Voices was launched early August 2019 in Cowra at the 75th anniversary of the Cowra Breakout. Cowra Voices is an audio-visual storytelling app about Cowra’s unique history of civic peace and reconciliation. The stories, which include those of people buried in the Japanese cemetery, are narrated by Cowra community members. The project was funded by the Australia-Japan Foundation, among others.

Cowra Japanese War Cemetery Online Database provides individual information on 524 graves in the Cowra Japanese War Cemetery. Those buried in the cemetery were Japanese prisoners of war and civilian internees who died in Australia during the Pacific War. This project was commissioned by the Embassy of Japan in Canberra.

There will be a talk and demonstration by the creators. Registrations are now open, online or by PDF form.

There is a small charge to cover refreshments after the presentation.
