Students make a virtual visit to the Sumo stable, reading about the life of a novice sumo wrestler in Japan, オージーの山 (lit. Aussie’s Mountain).
Students learn about Japanese language and culture through a quiz-style slideshow, which contains multiple choice questions with visual cues. Question and answer slides are followed by an explanatory slide which gives context and detail. Teachers’ notes provide further details.
Students work through several activities for learning and practicing 69 basic primary and junior secondary school level kanji.
Students practise their numbers in Japanese in this fun dice game. Groups work together to try and get up to the total number chosen by the teacher within their limit of throws.
Students act out this childrens' story which can be easily understood by an audience with or without knowledge of Japanese. The play can be used by students not only in the classroom but also as a presentation for a school event. There are 9 parts.
Students will practise numbers as they discuss the percentage of water in plants and animals. They will then brainstorm verbs relating to water use and discuss Australia’s and Japan’s use of water.

By ringing directory assistance to get a telephone number, students practice greetings for telephone conversations, asking for and giving telephone numbers and asking for information to be repeated.
Students work in pairs to set the clock at a particular time and converse in Japanese about what time it is.
